Re: Improvements to Onshape - November 22nd, 2024
Very nice update!
Some of my favorites this round, the very special ones are bold or italic :)
- New flatten surface export
- New Sketch profile inspector tool
- New Paused regeneration mode for Part Studios!!
- Support for Thickness Analysis for Professional and Enterprise Edu users
- Support including decals in thumbnails
- Support styling (bold, italic, cell colors ..) and cell width/height on paste from Excel/GSheets in Drawings
- Render Studio: Select all instances of Part or sub Assembly
I think the Onshape crew was hoping their name gets brought up this year at the Thanksgiving table when everyone says what they are thankful for 😉
Can't wait to see what they do for Christmas, unless they take a well-deserved break for December's release.
Re: LiveWorx ???
Hi Darren,
The one big thing that is missing is the sneak peek. 😭
No, seriously, there is probably not much difference in coverage. It is harder to justify travel for hrs just for a 1 or 2 hrs. Vs. something like Liveworx, which was a couple of days.
I also feel like I lost touch with many Onshape users since the user group thing was dropped, and some of these other events were also dropped. A number of the shows that Onshape attends are not in my line of work. For example, I am not going to take off work to attend an MD&M event because it is not part of my field of work. (not that I would not enjoy it) It just does not make financial sense.
Perhaps the thing that I feel is missing is events where the common ground and attraction is onshape. (I realize there have been a few Onshape-specific events over the past year, but none have been close enough to me or fit my schedule to justify attending.)
can I add extra truetype fonts to Onshape?
Is it possible to add fonts to the font library in Onshape?
Re: Improvements to Onshape - November 22nd, 2024
Checking the changelog, there shall be an update regarding pasting tables from Google Sheets or MS Excel. There's definitely some improvement done, but a lot is still missing.
Changelog: Support styling (bold, italic, cell colors ..) and cell width/height on paste from Excel/GSheets in Drawings
- Bold, italic, underline, strikethrough works
- Other types of styles unfortunately did not improve
- Cell height/width is somewhat changing, but is definitely not the same as from input
- Font size is not computed correctly from "pt" to "mm" (I believe that's why the cell sizing is wrong as well)
Thanks for looking into this 🙂

Christmas is early this year, thickness analysis tool 🤤 amazing!

Re: Custom Materials List
I think it's better to let go of trying to add plant species to the material list.
It's probably more suitable to create a custom property LAI and set it with a simple FS and call upon those to calculate the Green Plot Ratio.
same goes for the plants area, which may need some additional selection. I don't know how you model this, but if they are parts, how else is Onshape going to know which surfaces of the part to be using for the calculation?
