Re: Bring on the SubD!!!
It would be great to do organic modeling in Onshape with sub-d modeling. Is there any update on Onhshape incorporating sub-d modeling? Phi3D does not have sub-d modeling so I'm having to incorporate Fusion360 or Blender into my workflow. @NeilCooke @joe_dunne
Re: OP revolve constantly failing in onshape feature script
in the example below I added a line segment to the sketch.
edited the ellipse radii to be bodyHeight / 2
(because it's a radius, your body was twice the intended height).
and added a qNthElement to the query for the face to revolve and it works fine.
also check out the // commented lines to check what tests I did along the way to check my work while building the featurescript. I've gotten into the habbit of checking such steps in between to understand what the code is generating before I move on.
Re: Measurement and Dimensioning Different
Thank you very much! This fixed my problem :)
What was the distance I dimensioned before? The midpoints of the arc are the max distance apart at two opposing arcs or not?
Re: Introducing - The Onshape Desktop Client
@Caden_Armstrong What about the license server? How should I install it?
Re: Introducing - The Onshape Desktop Client
Onshape Desktop Client Connected Cloud+ is coming eventually, but a subscription for it will be included with all limited-time perpetual licenses of the Onshape Desktop client.
Re: Introducing - The Onshape Desktop Client
The key is to really lower your standards.
Re: Distorted, exaggerate perspective view is a deal breaker!
Another Industrial Designer here. I have also noticed the perspective not being ideal for all product sizes, but sure not to the extend that would justify Rhino … ;0)
I have had complaints only when showing stuff on a real wide aspect monitor. The distortion comes most prominent at the outer left and right edges on these, when the zoom is about adequate for the center. That is why I have a large, but more traditional aspect ratio display. It's okay there.
In Render Studio, the angle of view can be adjusted, so for renderings, it is not much of an issue.
Re: Video tutorial: Working with 3D scans
@MichaelPascoe This exact limitation is what keeps me tied to Rhino or Fusion 360 for reverse engineering meshes. I just need the Onshape kernel to expose mesh triangles to us to be able to do face grouping automatically by angle tolerance or size and then I'd have auto replacement of face groups with cylinders, planes, or constrained surfaces.
Re: Introducing - The Onshape Desktop Client
You know I'm really excited about this new desktop release, but I was really hoping for a cloud version of the same product with zero interoperability, missing half of the features, and a pay-by-module pricing structure with all of the tools spread between confusing classifications of user roles. Any word on when we can expect OnshapExperience?
Re: Introducing - The Onshape Desktop Client
Huh, nice job, Caden! We didn't think it was possible to build a CAD system that you install on your desktop…
