Re: Engineering Change Notices / New Part Introductions & OnShape
Currently, for our internal ECN and NPI processes, we really only use the Released management fuctions but have two custom properties: one for "Approvers" and one for "Approval Date," as we require external customer approval frequently. We also have a custom property for the ECN/NPI reference, which is shown in our revision table.
The details of an ECN/NPI are tracked using Smartsheet forms, which monitor reference numbers, stages, and other relevant information.
One of the challenges we face with Onshape is that to have non-CAD users (such as approvers) involved in the approval process, you need to have an Enterprise account. However, since we need approval from many external customers, this setup doesn’t work for us, and we’ve had to find workarounds.
A little off topic but additionally, from my past experience, very few PLM/MES/ERP software providers cater to SMEs without requiring a large upfront commitment. Most providers I’ve contacted expect a minimum purchase of five licenses, which makes it difficult for small businesses like ours. Even Arena, which integrates well with Onshape, has this same limitation, and that’s been quite disappointing.

Re: Engineering Change Notices / New Part Introductions & OnShape
That's what we do, but using a template in MS Office 365.
There is no integration between OS and any other system at my company. We have an ERP system and had 2 companies come in to show us how to integrate OS with it. They were both outrageous money, something like 10-15k per year. Way more than OS, and I think more than the ERP system.
We are a very small startup, with only 3 CAD licenses.

Re: How do I make the camera controls not awful? Seriously, everything shouldnt tilt on camera-rotate
You guys are making assumptions that key modifiers will save the world. It won't! E.g. in Linux Alt is used to manipulate window size/position so just using "alt to orbit" won't cut it. There needs to be a setting allowing that (and orbiting point) to be configurable, rather than forcing one to abandon one of the most useful features of the operating system being used. That's just short-sided.NeilCooke said:Hold option/alt
Also, how do I make the rotation point (at least) fixed or (better yet) configurable?

Re: Released Configured Part Not Configurable
I have a product that can be configured many different ways, and all of the various configurations must be released (and updated when a revision is made). The trouble I have, is that before release, I can easily change the assembly configuration and the assembly updates correctly with configured parts. I'm trying to figure out the best method to keep that same functionality and easily switch between multiple released configurations.
Re: Configurable Properties
for some instances, the newly available feature to 'exclude from properties' may be a solution. But only in part studio's and only if the variations of those configurations are not relevant for the BOM either.
Exclude from properties introduction
This issue occurs more often. also in assemblies.
What if you'd want to add a property to the assembly, regardless of the configuration?
I'd love it if in 'configured properties' for parts or assemblies a wildcard "*" would be available that would imply all configurations for that variable.
Re: How are people dealing with things that are measured by length on a BOM?
@billy2 , @nick_papageorge073 ,
You can use the "set property" feature to build a name/description that incorporates any variables automatically, then you wouldn't have to change it manually after the fact (and having it be wrong if things change…)
