Re: Improvements to Onshape - January 10th, 2025
Oh Wow! I can't believe we can finally control configuration input visibility! I haven't tested yet, but I am crossing my fingers inputs get set to there default values when there hidden state is triggered.
Edit:
It does! 😍.
Re: Untrim?
I guess "untrim" makes sense if the surface ID stays same and it doesn’t create a new surface. Greg’s "extract" feature creates a new surface from a surface or solid face.
Ideally "untrimming" or "extracting" could be done with one feature, with an appropriate option. I'd also like to see Solidworks' optional capability to extend the untrimmed surface. Also, an option to remove or leave internal holes in the surface would be great.
For even more extra credit, a refit-trim type tool which would rebuild a four sided trimmed surface to be untrimmed would be useful.

Re: Cut List (New Custom Feature!)
There must be something wrong with the additional duplicate check logic in one of the previous updates. I'll have a look when I have the time.
Re: Onshape server down?
I'm sure that was "exciting" for the Onshape team. Thanks for getting it taken care of quickly!
Re: Onshape server down?
Onshape is back operational. We had an issue around one of our databases and as a result Onshape became inaccessible. If you are seeing any issues, please submit a support ticket so that our support team is able to investigate.
Re: Onshape server down?
Union mandated break, love it. Still less downtime than Solidworks.
Re: Still no improvements to dimension references?
@martin_kopplow it happens a LOT when we are analyzing and planning multi-joint robot movement in 2D sketches. there are many, many lines cluttering the sketch simply to make groups of lines move as one in different positions.
regardless, setting two or more dimensions (length or angle) equal or related to eachother is common in most modern CAD and has been a request for maybe a decade now
Still no improvements to dimension references?
EDITED to remove the word "Driven"
Is it still the case that you can not set two dimensions equal or mathematically related to each other within the same sketch?
How can this not be resolved after years of improvement request? It gets pretty tiresome to keep making triangles every time you want two driven angles to be equal, or two lines to be proportional.
And no, Variables do not solve this, it's something that needs to be done within a single sketch, without leaving the sketch.
Re: Onshape server down?
Yes, the status page said it went down 45min ago,
I'm sure they are hard on it
