Wonderful update! So good to have a sketcher in drawings!
Re: Improvements to Onshape - January 31st, 2025
Wow, sheet metal forms at last! Congratulations. That's a really big step for those of us using sheet metal a lot.
Re: Issue with variables not being available in sketches
Thanks.
I do not yet understand the full power of the tree. But I am one step closer today.
Re: CAM Studio
I see that CAM Studio (Beta) has recently been released to Professional and Enterprise accounts.
Will schools or FIRST Robotics teams qualify for CAM Studio?
Currently, we export a STP file from Onshape and then import to an Autodesk product (Inventor or Fusion - students choice) to create the Gcode for our router. If the Onshape model changes, the process starts over.
I imagine using CAM Studio will offer a better integration between design and manufacturing.
I look forward to using CAM Studio some day.
Thank you for your time and attention. I look forward to the replies.
Regards,
Jerry
Re: Copy with transform command
Re: Is there something similar to shift + drag to copy? In the Assembly Studio?
Pity. Ctrl V still is just so ballpark that you wind up positioning parts manually anyway, even when copying from what's in the Assembly already.
It would be nice if you could drag and move, with other geometry and even mates acting as constrains, and shift-drag to copy would be icing on the cake.
The parts studio works pretty nice, with constraints and all when creating and positioning geometry. I hope some of it makes its way into Assembly.

Wow wow, this must be the best release ever. Very good , thank you !
Finally after years of waiting, the simple fillet in sketches is here 🙂
I will start using parametric sketching immediately, maybe even update drawing templates.

Can't wait for the student access to CAM!
Re: Issue with variables not being available in sketches
You can initiate a variable during the sketch/feature. When the value dialog opens during dimensioning enter # instead of a number and a list will show up. Select new variable and the variable dialog opens. When that is complete the variable will show up in feature tree ahead of sketch/feature. As Eric says, move up the tree to make available in previous features/sketches.

EDU will be addressed with CAM later after some time with commercial customers.
