Re: Can I flatten curved parts?
This thread is a bit old so this might be unlikely to help. But in case other people are looking for answers, there is a button in the lower right.
Click the protractor that says "Show Analysis Tools" then "Flatten Surfaces." It should flatten even complex surfaces and highlight distortion (if the part is curved in multiple directions) and then you should be able to export a .dxf.

5. The assembly was made by Onshape upon importing a STEP/parasolid/other file. maybe a group constraint was added at the top level of the assembly, but all subassemblies below are not constrained.
Re: Distorted, exaggerate perspective view is a deal breaker!
Industrial designer here. I too have requested options to set the field of view of the perspective lens. I hope they add it since right now it's appropriate for a car, but not a handheld device. But that said it's definitely never made me consider switching. The zebra stripes, curvature color map, and curvature combs have been great for evaluating actual continuity and surface quality. You can also do aesthetic checks with Render Studio directly in Onshape. You can change the field of view there, and apply better materials to evaluate by anyway.

hey guys do we have revision clouds yet. this is a big problem, also generally improving the sheets and manipulation of sheets and detail on them. ie in the end most people create drawings not models for the shop floor to read. eg combine sheets, better sheet information controls

Almost all your sketches are underconstarined - fix that first. Make sure all things you want to be a face are really fully closed.
Extrude 23: No face selected, or the face selected was removed after you created the extrusion.
Sketch 17: There is one point way off (zoom out!) that has lost it's refernce. You probably removed something that was in fact still needed.
Almost all following sketches and extrudes: Same issue as with Sktch 17.
Warm hint:
- If you want to create a building, fist make drawing planes that represent the floors and/or ceilings. Fix these! Then use these planes to base your wall sketches on, NOT faces of tentative/temporary objects subjcet to be deleted in the process.
- Go to the Learning Center and learn the basics first.
Re: Bug? How to drive sub assembly configuration variables (string)?
Yes, we have a client that has a pretty large project with up to 4 levels of sub assemblies. I wanted to let them choose color themes for the different types of parts (Sheet metal, frames, accent 1, accent 2, main, etc... ) in the top level assembly.
I can think of a number of useful cases for this:
- Customizing physical text embossing. (Serial numbers, client name, etc..)
- Controlling data live via variable studio json down through the sub assemblies. For example have a map containing standard materials and appearances for different categories of parts.
- Setting colors of all downstream assemblies.
Distorted, exaggerate perspective view is a deal breaker!
As an Industrial Designer I have to make al lot of design on surface quality and appearance.
Due to the exaggerate perspective view of Onshape it's really hard to do.
I usually do export my files and check them in Rhino. That workaround cost so much time that I am seriuosly considering to go back to Solid Works.
There are post addressing this issue from 2015.
That's not rocket science.
Why has't it been addressed in such a log time?
