Assemblies - Replicated parts orientation

Is there any way to make the replicate tool in assemblies align to specified orientations different from the replicated part? I've tried mating to non-round pockets and faces (features with obvious directionality) to try to force the replicated parts to face the direction I'd like them to face, but they always orient in the same direction as the original part.

I have a script that creates pockets for cam-and-dowel hardware and I'm trying to add some kind of feature that would help align the hardware within an assembly, so it can be bulk-placed with the replicate tool.
I didn't bother getting the hardware to sit properly in the pocket yet, I was trying to get the directionality issue figured out first.
Thanks for taking a look!
