Why can't I edit this document?

So I've been working building a robot on my robotics team but it won't let me edit the document. When I go to shared documents it says I can edit it, but when I actually open it it says in the top left corner: "This document is view only." Any suggestions?

    Is the document private, either owned by a paid account or EDU account? They can give you edit permissions, but if you are using a free account you are still prohibited to edit it. They will have to make the doc public for you to edit it.
