Face filleting error

Hello everyone!

I was filleting an object and I couldn't do it the way I am used to in other softwares.

If I select a face as an entity to fillet, as shown in the two pictures below, I get an error.

It only works if I select edges.

Onshape help doesn't say anything about not using faces while filleting. I would like to understand why this happened.

Could you please share a link to your document with sharing set to public? This will help with figuring out why the fillet isn't working. It should work with selecting faces in most cases.

It’s because selecting the face will try to fillet all the edges belonging to that face including the split line edge.

Not sure why I get any credit for an accepted answer haha, @NeilCooke has the solution!
I modeled the part, and interestingly, the fillet does work when the edges at the center of the draft are also selected:

Adding a fillet to the center edge first allows you to select the two faces to add more fillets without selecting the long edges, but results in some weird geometry at the corner:
