Why can't I shell this object / import

Hi my name is Owen and I am trying to design an iPhone 11 case by using a shell tool around a model of the iPhone 11. But for some reason every time I try to shell the object it says "could not shell part with selections" Ive been stuck on this for hours so any help would be greatly appreciated.

but how did you shell it? could you show how?

I did not shell it.

Sometimes trying to use certain tools may not be the best approach. It could slow you down. It’s possible you might not be able to use the tool you want without having to jump through a bunch of hoops. And sometimes, a particular tool just isn’t going to do what you want it to do

In this case, I used Offset Surface set to zero. And then I thickened the surface outward, because I found it faster to do this way

As to thickening in general, well some programs have an easier time thickening outward than thickening inward, depending upon the circumstances
