shell tool on complicated part
Hi all! i am trying to use the shell tool on this boat hull with no luck, i have changed the thickness etc. https://cad.onshape.com/documents/d4515d6419f167e22e28ec5b/w/144911c0572a9cdbe7919d76/e/3dfe099029f75709361ffd35?renderMode=0&uiState=692738511afc3a740847730f Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you 😀

Won't shell because of certain curves?
Hey, I'm a green newb to OnShape, I started this year but I'm having so much fun, in combination with the 3dprinter. I've made some repairs at home, designed toys with my 8y son (TinkerCad) and designed boxes for tools. My problem concerns the latter. I want to shell out this inlay with a wall thickness of 2mm. It shells,…

How to put a sketch on the face of a shell?
This is probably a simple thing but I'm just not seeing it… If you create a square then extrude it down (not the default up) to a cube then shell it out to remove one side, all is easy peasy. Now try to place a sketch on the inner wall off the shell and the inner shell wall is not selectable because when you try to select…

Shell command not intelligent enough
Would like to ask about the level of comprehension the shell tool has. Every time I go to use it it fails because of self intersection of walls, instead of just... not shelling those areas. This is already implemented in other cad programs. I just want to make a cut away of one face up to a multi-faced end; a flat face and…

Shell tool gives wrong dimensions?
I am trying to make a vacuum nozzle that goes from a ⌀1.2" to a ⌀0.5". I make two sketches, one of them offset above the first by 1 inch, and the bottom circle is ⌀1.2625" and the top circle is ⌀0.5625". I use the loft tool to make a cone-shaped transition between them, and then use the shell tool to make the solid shape a…

Why can't I shell this object / import
Hi my name is Owen and I am trying to design an iPhone 11 case by using a shell tool around a model of the iPhone 11. But for some reason every time I try to shell the object it says "could not shell part with selections" Ive been stuck on this for hours so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Fillet-Two Surfaces or Fillet-Three Surfaces to add material near drafted features?
I created a simple model to show what I was wanting to do. I had two drafted surfaces that ended up forming a flattened V. I wanted to add some material in the valley by creating a fillet between the surfaces. Didn't see that option under Fillet. So I created a sketch (where you can create a fillet in the V sketched lines)…

Can't shell my part! Help or alternatives please!
Hi all, First post, so apologies if my lingo's not up to scratch... I've made a couple of projects in OnShape, but my CAD experience is definitely very limited. I'm trying to create an aerodynamic cover that goes over the front brake on my time trial bike. I've managed to get the shape 'sculpted', but I can't seem to shell…

Boolean not returning valid part; how to intersect?
I already posted this here (this is a duplicate) but this seems like the more appropriate forum. I have a boat that I'm trying to model based off of four lofted sketches. I've been trying to hollow it out; I tried using both shell and thickness to do so. In either case, whenever I try to take the top of the boat off using…

Loft between top of shell and inclined plane
Im ty to create a set of inclined planes which I would like to join to top of a shell. However, when trying to use a loft it looks crappy as the loft looks like it is using a point on the shell as an unwanted vertices. How do you do this>…

Outer Shell fail
I'm trying to outer shell a duct, but it fails. I think it's because some regions are too small, but I'm not sure how to fix this. Link to the doc is @ https://cad.onshape.com/documents/14f3d01d62b5237f728896c5/w/40e0afc950b8ca0dfecf9ef8/e/8c473ae13c752e424f8b5051. I can do an inner shell just fine, but then it blocks the…

merging and hollowing two lofts
Hi All I'm trying to model and 2-into-1 exhaust collector, and I've managed to create the shape I need, but I can't work out how to hollow it. My part is here. I've tried using shell, and in the top and bottom circles, creating an inner circle and then trying to loft-remove between them, but I'm failing. I need a constant…

can't thicken a Shell
Any idea why this shell error could mean? Seems I can't go thicker than a .95 shell because of this area onshape doc @ https://cad.onshape.com/documents/14f3d01d62b5237f728896c5/w/94d619557ed944a898f21d55/e/3965d76b2a483d281d37d261. Thank you!

Hollow Part?
I have thought of a "Hollow' part. I suppose a Boolean of a Scaled in Place Part inside a Part. Or Slice the Part in two, shell both pieces and Boolean back together. Perhaps under Shell could be a Hollow. Might be a 3D Printing want! I imagine you could Extrude a "Drain Hole" to a Wall Thickness depth and pick the bottom…

Can't select faces to shell
Hi - I must be missing something obvious here, but perhaps someone can point me in the right direction. I create a sketch profile for a lampshade and rotate around a vertical axis. Next, I want to shell it, but although I can select faces to remove (basically the flat top and bottom) prior to the shell command, when the…
