Large Cursor Offset

I am having a problem where I can only work in my document for a few moments before something happens that causes my cursor selection point to have a large offset to the left of where the cursor actually is. I see another post from about 8 years ago with someone describing the same situation but no solution. I am using firefox and lenovo laptop running linux. Is there any known bug that causes this, or any known solution?
