Cantilever tutorial, lines on shape? Can't create new sketch on entire part

daniel_chowdaniel_chow Member Posts: 108 ✭✭✭
Hello everyone,

I have another question about the Cantilever Tutorial / Essential Training 1:58.
Here is my document

If you look at this screen shot, the instructor's smaller arm has no lines in it, he is able to select the entire part and start a new sketch ontop of it.

If you look at mine, my lower arm has lines in it. I cannot select the entire object and start a new sketch. It will only let me select the pieces of each of the lower arm. What is odd, is that the larger upper arm doesn't have this problem! Can someone give me a push in the right direction here? Thank you!

Yes that works, thank you! For anyone else who is having this problem, here is a screenshot of how you hide the main sketch:

And when you do, you can then select the entire part

Conversely, sometimes when you need to select sketches (or entities thereof), you need to hide parts.

Thank you again Andrew. The key to learning this is to use it regularly, extend your knowledge a bit and practice what you already know.

I was going to start a new thread on this but I'd like to mention that I'm doing this on a Chromebook, onShape web app is very fast and responsive even on our oldest set of Chromebooks! (Quad Qualcom, basically a cell phone processor, 2GB RAM).
