how can I change the scroll-wheel step value for numerical inputs?

joshtargojoshtargo Member Posts: 326 EDU

change the value by increments of 1 is too coarse, is there a way to set a smaller step value when you use the scroll wheel to adjust a numerical input?

I'm not aware of any option/preference to change this. But you're free to log an enhancement request.

what about some way to have + and - buttons on the input window so we can change a step value and use the buttons to go up or down one step per click?

Yeah, but .1 is still too big sometimes. I need to figure out how to make buttons

Not certain, but possibly also changing the number of lines per scroll in your OS settings?

It would be very nice if the scroll wheel increments were customizable beyond the standard 1/10 x, 1 x, and 10 x. Solidworks and Alias both have on-the-fly ability to tweak these values and pick from a list of options (I'm sure other tools do as well). Seems like it would be a good improvement request. I would vote for it.

This would just make it do more steps per revolution, but would not change the step size.

When tweaking curve control points or scale factors, 0.001 or 0.0001 can be necessary for fine control.

As a workaround, I built this into a new FS I'm working on. Works well, and is easy (the script just multiplies the input numbers by different factors and adds them all up.

The stepping (with Ctrl and Shift modifiers) also works with the arrow keys. As long as your cursor is in the right place, it works like a charm to step up and down with the arrow keys rather than the mouse wheel.

(Doesn't address your initial question, I know!)

Let's say I like to work in 64ths of an inch. I want to scroll the mouse wheel and change dimensions by .015625 inches. Or microns, or furlongs, or any increment I want. Does every stupid thing need an enhancement request to just get fixed right?
