I'm new to cad and can't figure out why my shape won't make a plate

So I'm making a small stove, I made a "U" plate that will be bent, but now I want to make a front plate then makes a hole for the door, but when I extrude it just keeps the "U" shape and won't extrude as a plate.I don't know why it does that, I didn't make a rectangle then extruded it from the inside to make the shape.

Please help.Thanks

It is a bit hard to figure what exactly you want. The front plate looks nothing like a U-shape? I have the suspicion you might have selected "Face" in the extrude options.

Besides that: When bent sheet metal comes into play, using the sheet metal tools might come handy.
