Editing a sketch sometimes my solid line disappear???

I am one day into the program and when I start to edit a sketch some of my solid lines will disappear. A rectangle for example will have 2 or 3 of the 4 lines. I also cannot work my dimensions if this takes place. HELP PLEASE!
