Hole Tool Questions

I was experimenting with the hole tool, and for some reason I can't get the NPT holes to actually be tapered - do you know why this is? When I measure the diameter at top and bottom, they are the same, and the section view and face selection shows a straight cylinder. Also, I see that it seems to me like the threads are just visual, which is great for machining and stuff! However, if I were making a part for additive manufacturing or something, where can I choose whether or not the threads are physical or just visual? Thanks!
