How to get URDF export to include composite parts?

I have a cart assembly which I'd like to export as a URDF. Most of the parts are imported from the extrusion-maker's STEP files. I imported some of the complex components, like the wheels/casters on the bottom, as composite parts. My assembly just mates many of these composite parts + assorted other parts. But these composite parts don't end up being included in the URDF that I export. The URDF XML just specifies one of the meshes from the composite part, even though the meshes folder contains many additional meshes that aren't used in the XML at all.
Other types of export work the way I expect (e.g. an exported mesh of the assembly includes all of the geometry I expect, under the same setup)
Any advice or workarounds?
