When l attempt to begin a new drawing it stalls stating "loading workplace"

    Not likely.  WebGL was very new in those days.  No modern browsers will support XP.  Firefox might install but you will probably run into some issues.  You can go to https://cad.onshape.com/check to see how your systems stands.
