curved plane

I am trying to sketch on a curved surface. Is it possible to make a curved plane? The only way i can see how to extrude a part is using the sweep feature but once that is done you cant sketch on the curved face. Have used tangent plane wich is ok for cutting holes, slots through the part but wonder if there is a better way.

Sketching on a curved surface is no trivial matter. Some CAD systems let you draw splines on curved faces, but none let you draw lines, arcs, circles (since on a curved surface they are no longer that shape). The other way is to wrap a planar sketch onto a curved surface (this is being released in version 25 of SolidWorks next month). If there is no workaround to get what you want you can request an enhancement through the feedback menu.Senior Director, Technical Services, EMEAI5
