loosing relationships

I created an assembly with many parts and have them all mated but when I try to use this assembly in a larger one some of the parts loose their relationship and I am not able to put them back into place.
Is there something that I have forgotten to do in the process?

I never try to have more than 1 fixed part in an assembly for this reason. I quite often will do an assembly with a group mate and 1 fixed part which locks everything in position.5
