How can I import sheet metal geometry from another CAD platform.

I tried importing a simple sheet metal part created with solidworks as a STEP file. I was unable to convert the file using Onshape's sheet metal tools to make the part useable. Is this possible to do or am I missing something?

SW will attempt to reverse draw the part feature by feature, creating a native model to manipulate.
OS will attempt to create a new sheet-metal part from either a solid box, thickened surface, or extruded sketch. (pretty much the first feature only). From which you build upon.5

Currently sheet metal Convert functionality would not recognize bends in imported sheet metal model. You can try removing bends with Delete face functionality and using Start sheet Metal Thicken on flat faces.
