rotate pattern, remove

I have a solid disk, added a radial slot.  Need to make a pattern of the slots, but there is no separate "part" to select for removal.  When creating the slot, the only option is to merge with the original part.  How can I make a pattern remove?

    Never mind, duh.  Need to select feature pattern.  Solved

    I would also take a look at performing a face pattern. Performance-wise, this is the better option
