How do I edit a basic sketch?

I have followed the instructions and can produce a (for example) rectangle in a particular plane. I can extrude the rectangle in all planes, but the system will not allow any other editing/modifying; eg, holes, fillets or extensions. What am I doing wrong?

Have you noticed that Onshape has re-usable sketches ie. you can extrude sketch partially or completely. If you have rectangle and create circle as a hole inside it, you need to select rectangle but not circle into extrude.
If you wan't more advanced editing, after created rectangle select face you wan't to modify, add new sketch on that face and extrude with remove option to cut or add to extend or new to extrude new part.
Part studio is very powerfull with reusable sketches and multipart environment, unlike in traditional cads you can create complete static multipart model into single studio and you only need assembly for advanced stuff and motion.
