How to create angled plane off a point?

I have a hexagon shape like a nut, and i want to extrude a shape at an angle off the surface - the angle is measure from a line connecting 2 opposite points - not 2 opposite sides. I cannot figure out what entities to select so that the plane will be created.
Note: if I select an edge and then the surface, the plane get created, but now it's rotated 60 degrees about the face, and I don't want that.

This page goes through all the different types of planes that can be created. Hopefully reading through the options will help you find the type you need. https://cad.onshape.com/help/Content/cplane.htm
To me it sounds like you need to use the 'Line angle' plane:
