Sketch plane is selected instead of face

The faces of a solid became unselectable after creating a sketch with only a point in it.  I realized that it is selecting the sketch "plane" instead of the face.  Is this expected behavior?  I tried this on multiple parts...  same behavior...
See 3 pictures.

Thank you for you help.

    Hi @Fox66

I believe you'll want to hide "Sketch 7".

The dilemma of selecting 3D things on a 2D monitor...  Can't wait until we use VR and the cursor is a pointy stick than can pierce through things to select what's behind it.

In addition to Owen's suggestion, you can always use right-click > "Select other..." to pick a different selection than initial one we choose for you.

Hovering over the sketch and pressing the "Y" key will hide it
