Part falls apart when inserting into assembly

When I create a complex part in the Part Studio, and then import it into an Assembly, when I manipulate the part to attach it to the rest of the parts in the Assembly, it loses it's cohesiveness, and only the specific piece of the part which includes the attachment will be attached, and the rest of the part is left behind. How do I get a single part to function as a single part, so it doesn't get pulled apart when I try to attach it to the rest of the assembly?
