I have imported a .dxf file and I cant extrude it so I was wondering what I might be doing wrong?

I have two drawings that I imported in the same file but I can extrude one of them which is the smaller one but the bigger one just has a gray platform elevated in the air and the extrude is red on the left bar thing.

If you post the URL of your document we may be able to provide better help.  When you hover your mouse over the red "Extrude #" what does it say?
