Is it possible to copy a variable (or multiple variables) from one part file to another?
If I copy a sketch which contains variables into a new part, it would be nice to also copy the variables to quickly correct any sketch errors.

In the mean time there are methods to use featurescript, or to derive parts and then use the custom feature "Measure Distance" to get pseudo global variables.

That's great, thank you. I've not yet gotten into feature script yet but this may be the perfect excuse to make a start ;-)0
