Why can't I have views of different parts, or assemblies in the same drawing?

It doesn't appear to be possible to create a drawing with views of different geometry. Or at least I cannot figure out how to do it.
I know standard practice is to create a unique drawing for a unique part/assembly, but this shouldn't mean a CAD system should enforce it.

If you click the little cube to the left of the view name you can select alternative parts or assemblies, flatten patterns. This also includes other doc's and or versions.

Beautiful, thank you. I revisited Onshape Help and this subtlety is documented was not obvious to me. I would have thought the option to reference different data would have been found under the pull-down. The UI makes more sense to me now. Thanks again.1
