How to optimize speed in an assembly

I'm currently working on a decent size assembly with multiple subassemblies and it's starting to get really slow to move certain component. I can wait around 10 seconds to see my telescopic mast move. Is there something I can do to improve the speed? I'm also wondering if my computer is causing this lag.

    It appears to be moving at full speed for me. Not sure what would cause it.
    It's a very basic model and it has been mated properly.
