Using a twisted face to split parts
Hi,
Below is an image of the trailing edge of an RC plane wing:
The trailing edge is twisted when wing washout is applied which causes problems with what I want to achieve below:
- I need to split the ribs at the front face of the trailing edge and then delete the rearmost parts post split.
- I'd like to make the trailing edge profile match the rib profiles.
I did ask the AI Advisor this question: how do I split parts using a twisted face
And the answer was: Sorry, Onshape AI Advisor cannot answer this question.
Any help appreciated.
Thank you.

You should watch this, lots of very relevant and very good advice:

Actually, this is the one I was thinking of as it specifically discusses washout:

@GregBrown has done several in depth videos on modeling RC airplane wings, engines etc. I would recommend watching those if you haven't so far.

You definitely don't need a planar face to use Split Part.

Split Part doesn't work? Maybe share your doc.

I'm no airplane design expert or even an ametuer but wouldn't it be easier to start with the surfacing of your wing and build the parts based on that skin?

Thanks everybody.
@Matt_Shields , no it doesn't work when the face is not planar.
@MDesign yes that is an approach I'm looking at.
The @GregBrown videos are very useful, thank you @eric_pesty and @S1mon.

Thank you @Matt_Shields, you're absolutely right! Not sure where I was going wrong before!
