Preparation for Single Sign-On for the Forums (UPDATED)

edited December 2014 in General
Very soon we will be getting Single Sign-on (SSO) in place for our forums.  This should make the link between Onshape and the community simple.  However, some of you have used a different email address for the forums than you did for Onshape and this might cause some issues in this SSO transition.

In anticipation of this change, please check to make sure that your profile on the forum has the same email address associated with it as your Onshape sign-in.  If it does not match, follow the steps below to correct it:
  1. Click on the gear ()  -> Edit Profile
  2. Under Email, type in the email you use to login to Onshape
  3. Click Save.
In the future you will also be able to set your Onshape email in the same fashion and you could then choose the email associated with your account. (currently this is not possible).

We hope this makes the transition over to the forum streamlined and avoids having to manage two accounts.  Thank you for the time.  ~Lou

    UPDATE:
Single Sign-On (SSO) is operational!  There are a few things still to do for those of you that might come to the forums directly and are not currently signed into Onshape.  So here are the details for the various scenarios for now:
    1. You are signed into Onshape and use the ? menu and select Forums:  You will be automatically signed into the forums and ready to go.  If you already had an account, it will match up your registered Onshape email and if you are new to the forum (or using a different email), a new account will be created for you automatically.

    2. You are signed into Onshape and you go directly to https://forum.onshape.comYou will see the following screen and can log in with your Onshape account by clicking your Forums Name ("Sign in with Onshape).  (You can use your legacy email/password account for now until we get the next scenario fixed.

    3. You are NOT signed into Onshape and your go directly to https://forum.onshape.com:  In this case,  you can click "Sign in with Onshape" and get redirected over to the Onshape sign-in page. However once you sign in, you will not be automatically redirected back to the forums.  You will then need to either use the ? menu -> Forums or type in the URL in the browser.  We are currently working to get this fixed and will update you all when it is working.

Please let us know if you have any problems using this new sign in method.  Thank you for your patience.  ~Lou
