Having trouble selecting entities in sketch

I am trying to follow the example in the help menu to create a spring. I am able to create a cylinder, and a helix. I then create a new point plane on the end of the helix. When I try to create a circle on the end of the helix, the pick point for the end of the helix will not light up. I was able to copy and past the circle to the end of the helix but when I go to revolve, I can select the circle but cannot select the helix for the path. Any ideas?

@mike_kelley685 , Yes you have to use sweep operation for creation of spring.
