How to create a single surface between a curved surface and its tangent, adjacent counterpart?

Here is the part I Am working with. I would share the document, but I am working under a binding NDA. My goal is to remove the two highlighted lines to create a smooth surface. Any help is much appreciated.

What is the purpose of removing the edge? We have visualization modes which do not display edges, and our drawing product can also hide tangent edges. Because this edge divides a planar and cylindrical face, there will always be an edge there, and two distinct faces. If you describe the reason behind your goal in more detail, we may be able to provide a solution.
(In other words, just because there is an edge there does not mean your surface is not tangent continuous. It just means you are transitioning from one face to the next, the two of which are defined by different underlying geometry, a plane and a cylinder.)Jake Rosenfeld - Modeling Team0 -
@Jake_Rosenfeld thanks for the speedy reply. I am using this for an energy chain, and the is currently mated to the inside of the bottom surface. It will not follow the curved path. I saw an example I am trying to mimic here by @NeilCooke (THANKS BTW):

He managed to smooth the surface, and I cannot figure out how this was done.0 -
This custom feature will do the job. I did the original energy chain using some hokey sketching technique, but this will convert arcs/lines into a single spline.

I can see the arcs and lines become a single spline, but I cannot get surfaces to convert, and it seems our mating options are not comparable. I have built a little playground to test the feature script. I am hoping that we can make both the tangentially-mated disc and the-slider mated cylinder follow the curves. Ideas?
