How to fix replacement of Sketcher menu

-Click on Sketch button
-Asked to select sketching plain
-Select plane (name appears in dialogue box) and Sketcher menu loaded
- click on green check-mark to accept
- Sketcher menu replaced immediately by 'Extrusion' menu

This happens in Chromium, Safari and Opera browsers.
Is there a fix ?
