Re: Orient a sketch
Yes, there is a 2nd part perpendicular (have a look at my top 2nd link). But I don't need to define the bolt axis, and it will be more work to do that. The reason is the parts are lasercut metal sheets. So, a 2D sketch is all we need to define geometry; the width is constant (3mm). I wanted to write a few 3D tools to move… -
Re: Configurations as Variables
An alternative suggestion to @john_mcclary 's which still lets you use a single table: * Add a variable feature to your Part Studio, name it "length" * Right click the variable value > click Configure by "Dimensions" * Assign values to the new variable's column as you've done to the Sketch 1 column above * Now, you can use… -
Re: Curious About STL Export 'Coarse' 'Medium' 'Fine' For 3D Print
VERY interesting observation and I think what one would expect when choosing different resolutions. Big differences between Coarse and Fine. Don't understand the terms but don't see any reason not to use fine unless, as you say the model is really big. I'm just a hobbyist but have 3D printed many models from OS with… -
Re: How to select a variable when adding a dimension while sketching on ios
Yes, that’s a good conclusion. Variables do work when typed fully. I have not used the desktop app much yet, so I cannot say how it works there. I tend to come up with 30-40 variables for a design and I did not bother yet to create a shortcut language, therefor they quickly have a length of 20 characters. Which is why I… -
Re: In context edits to change with configuration variables?
I think what you're saying makes a lot of sense, and I can definitely do it that way. What I was hoping to accomplish was being able to kit parts together in an assembly and modify them as needed. Another example might be this: Let's say I kit together a tall oven cabinet. That's a pretty standard cabinet, but I want an… -
Re: Why is slot going crazy when confirming?
What are you trying to do with the sketch next? There might be easier ways to do what you want with the rib tool, or thickening surfaces, or there’s a thin extrude FeatureScript out there. Offsetting a lot of stuff in a single sketch tends to confuse the solver, and not be as robust as solid or surface features, especially… -
Re: How to select or define mdf panels for a cut list
To do this, it will be best practice to set up a configured sketch in its own part studio; this way you can easily re-use it with whatever size you need. When the profile is used in another studio, you will be able to have any value you like. See these steps: * Create a part studio with the sketch profile you like. *… -
Re: Circular Transition
@STEG yes, that's a bit like Michael's approach, only he used a sketch plane at 45°. So we have more than one way to skin a cat, obviously. :0) That's great: Wrapping a sketch provides most control over the slope, but has precision limits where connecting to the other slab. Projecting at 90° creates a proper connection to… -
Creating list of dimensions of rectangular sheet parts
Hi, I'm fabricating parts from rectangular sections of flat sheet. In order to create drawings to cut the required dimensions I'm currently creating the part, making an assembly with each of the parts mated to each other to form a flat sheet, creating a drawing of that sheet, and dimensioning it. Seems like an awful lot of… -
Need help patterning holes
Hi Onshape Community, (new to this forum) I was hoping to get some help on a featurescript project of mine. I am part of a FRC team that works constantly with Hole patterned 1X1, 2X1, and that sort of thing for constructing our robots. I am looking to create a featurescript that creates these tubes for us, using inputs of…
