Re: copying a pattern from one side of an extrusion to others (skyscraper)
@nadine_phillips To get the windows from one side of the building to the other, you could use a mirror: https://cad.onshape.com/help/Content/mirror.htm You can either use "Face" mode and use the create selection tool to select all the window pockets, or you can use feature mirror selecting whatever features were used to… -
Re: Global Variables?
@sloan_thrasher Its strange this hasn't been solved despite numerous calls and the obvious necessity. https://forum.onshape.com/discussion/comment/60779#Comment_60779 However so far I do it by a featurescript: 1. next to the tabs press plus - 'create feature studio' 2, insert the code below where "thickness" etc. will be… -
Re: Is there a way of restoring my public document inadvertently sent to trash?.
The document has "miraculously" been restored. I don"t know how it came back in my list of documents but there it is. I've opened it and all is OK. The only thing I can add is that I had tried to restore it by clicking the trash button where I found the document but a dialogue came up telling me the document could not be… -
Re: How to drive dimensions from other dimensions
I'm a long time Inventor user and am currently evaluating OnShape over Fusion 360 for a new company, and the inability to reference dimensions in sketches and other features is killing me. For example if you need to place an array of vent openings that get 10% closer together over a distance. You have to manually do that… -
Re: To "Coincident Constrain", or "Concentric Constrain", that is the question. (Misquoting Shakespeare)
I was not aware the bounding edges of the face selected to create a sketch plane were that accessible for constraining. I have not had an issue using the coincident constraint to constrain to a circle/arc center to the center of a circular edge on the sketch plane because I always use "Use". It is my practice to "Use" the… -
Re: Re-using parts vs creating new in multipart studios (concerning production and erp data)
@3dcad - What, specifically, makes using an existing part harder than making a new part? Is it hard to know if it exists? Is it hard to find the existing part when you know it exists? Is it too difficult or tedious to add the part when you know it exists? I agree that re-using parts is definitely better than re-creating… -
Re: Default value of a configurable variable from an imported part studio?
Last time I checked, there are no requirements anywhere in FeatureScript regarding the size of maps since maps are basically infinitely expandable. So long as required keys (and matching values) are present, additional key - value pairs are disregarded, even when doing things like type checking: var myPlane =… -
Re: Using variables in part design or FS
@michael3424 Ah yeah, if you're using a hobbyist/maker-grade laser like I am, then it doesn't do any kerf compensation in the laser control, so cutting a 1" square actually results in something like an 0.99" square. This is what the kerf compensation feature is intended to correct, and then the LJ feature is just to define… -
Building Layouts (Floor Plan) -- Seeking Your Advice
I have constructed a building layout (floor plan) for a 2 story office space: https://cad.onshape.com/documents/569e29daf28932c56a2c7a76/w/d3678f7a010aec8d44ed44bc/e/db2ca978e704cf21d2fd5650 Does anyone have any advice on document structure, design or construction techniques that would be specific to these types of models?… -
Part Studio Methodology
I am working on building a deck addition on my house and have been using OnShape the last couple of days to come up with some designs. https://cad.onshape.com/documents/c81a2bf27975d44e7c132e75/w/4f3056aaa0badaeaa582f09c/e/16b9e3b5c432f8ca521da0c6 I thought I was doing pretty good * Created "skeleton" to define some of the…
