Re: New FeatureScript: T-Slot Joints for Laser Cut Parts
Thanx a lot for those laser-cutting features, i'm quite new when it come to making and completely new to laser cutting. It's hard making an entire project including various other domains like electricity when your workflow must include dozens of differents features coming more often than not from differents softwares.… -
Re: In-context primary instance
Thanks for the feedback and trying in-context editing. The origin/mate connector used to create part studio is only to position assembly and doesn't create parametric relationship between part studio and assembly origin/mate connector. What we found that many times users want motion between initial selected origin/mate… -
Re: A little more on configuration.
What part isn't sinking in? the format of the inline If statement? variable = (something is true) ? (then do this) : (otherwise it is false so do this) anything before the ? is a test condition, which is comparing two objects at a time using comparison operators x > y is greater then x < y is less than x >= y is greater… -
Re: Photo realistic rendering
Ok, this might be a bit crude, but here is a cut/paste from the app store beta forum (you have to be in the beta to be able to read it - hence the cut/paste). This should give you a brief introduction to the capabilities - I hope you agree that these capabilities are very high quality and exciting! (Thank you Joe Dunne) *… -
Re: Why OnShape defines a new program language - FeatureScript?
I get asked this every now and then -- it was not a light decision. The advantages of using an existing language is an easier learning curve like you mention (for those that know the language), and the ability to reuse some of the existing language parsing/engine. The main reasons we decided to develop our language are: 1.… -
Re: How many Part Studios would too many per document?
@Mazie_Houchens - Great question! We are on the verge of publishing a series of White papers addressing this very issue. John is right as is probably anyone else that offers their opinions. That said, i can describe a nutshell scenario that should help inform your thinking. TL;DR - what is in a Document will change over… -
Re: Does anyone use the Sketch Spline Tool?
@todd_brous I tend not to use the mid node control like you show. I've had it in the past, but don't really miss it. On a crazy day I: add construction lines to the node handles, than add symmetry. You can also add dimensions to handles for magnitude control. I'd never do this for real. This curve doesn't interest me. Now… -
Re: Why FeatureScripts?
Let me add a little more. Most custom features people have written fall into one of the following categories: 1. Functionality that should be part of Onshape that we have not had a chance to implement internally. 2. Custom features for specific manufacturing processes, like woodworking joinery. 3. Custom features designed… -
Re: To Hold or Not Hold Control...
Hi folks, another great topic, allow me to throw my thoughts into the mix and broaden the scope, as OS are shaking things up a bit:- (1) Control Click Weird at first but now like it and wish other software did the same. Possibly makes sense to not make it consistent :p Set the behaviour to minimise clicks, so in CAD… -
Re: Assembly Mate Stability: Hierarchy of Geometry
This is of interest to me as well. First, dependency robustness. Quick experiments show that it's no better than solidworks... Sketch geometry is the most stable, solid edges are ok and solid vertices are fragile. Mate connectors can be to sketch geometry which will probably be my preferred reference geometry as I found…
