I think what might be most useful would be a "part template" system.
That way you could apply sets of properties to parts in one go, maybe even just an extension of "categories" to including some data (instead of just the fields) and then you would just need to be able to set one to use by default…

. Something I've been searching for. This will help so much with ocd of trying to match up with import scans at least for flat areas.. Now if we can get something similar for non planer surfaces…we'll be cookin'!!

You can do it fairly easily with variables and patterns. It takes a bit to get used to it at first but not bad once you get the hang of it.

Yepp, a default material woud be useful. Some people use structural steel 95% of the time. Fasteners bring their own anyway.

I too think it is not necessary information. It's like calling out the final diameter of a turned part, while instructing the machinist to take 3 passes to get there. That's not the designer's responsibility.
I worked in a machine shop for a few years and the machinists just want the final thread callout, and the class of fit if its a specialized thread. How they make the thread is up to them.
