Re: Force radius or diameter dimension in a sketch
Well, it has been 8 years @viru , does the facility exist yet? This is a very important and simple feature of parametric modeling, designers must be able to control either a radius or a diameter.
Re: New Custom Feature: Point Overcut
That looks good. We're doing some laser cutting and wood and aluminium routing and so I'll try it next time such a part comes my way.
Re: Custom Feature: Mold & Die Design
yeah, that's also how Iuse it often. also to show unconventional demoulding options/sequences. when they see it they'll believe it.
If you want to quickly iterate the offset with a variable, just make the mold stock with the standard 25 mm offset.
set variable offset=45 mm
After the mold stock feature add a 'move face' with your variable to all 4 sides (or 6) sides of the stock (offset-25 mm).
Re: Custom Feature: Mold & Die Design
I've never directly designed injection mold tools, but I've worked with a ton of toolers and molders, and launched 100s of tools. I could imagine some things which would help tool designers:
- Feature(s) to make cooling lines and the connections to them easier.
- Standard libraries of mold components from suppliers like PCS, DME, etc.
- Features to create "standard" mold bases.
- Moldflow analysis.
- Projected area measurement feature or built-in tool.
- Better built-in volume tools. (Yes you can add some FeatureScript and then get a BOM with volumes, but this should be easier).
- Integration with MES tools?
If I was designing tools, the way configurations work in Onshape and Onshape's ability to take CAD data from just about any other system and do direct modeling would be a huge advantage over other systems.
Over the years, I've noticed a lot of tool design is done very schematically in 2D in AutoCAD first or perhaps totally done that way, and 3D is perhaps just for CAM for EDM tools and any complex parting lines. Part of the challenge would be to be faster/cheaper than that. It would be fascinating to talk to a lot of toolers around the world about their problems and needs and help tailor Onshape for that industry.

How to restrict @ in Comments to only show students/educators in my classroom
I am trying to assign a comment to a student, and when I start typing his name, Onshape suggests 5 similar names, none of whom I know, and none of whom are on my teams or in my classroom. How can I make it only show people related to the project?
Re: Sometime my curved sketches extrude straight
That is probably just rendering. Try turning on "View in high quality" to see if that clears things up. Curved sketches will create curved surfaces. And circular sketches will create circular features, but might be rendered as polygons. Below are the same two shapes, one rendered in high quality.
Re: Rectangle icon missing - view has a dark bacground instead of white
In Onshape, a black screen indicates that you are having a graphics rendering problem (or you're in dark mode). If you are in Chrome, check to make sure hardware acceleration is enabled:
- Go to chrome://settings/
- System
- Make sure “use hardware acceleration when available” is checked.
- Go to chrome://flags/
- Make sure “Override software rendering list” is Enabled.
