Native NX import
Hi there,
I am looking for a good option to handle native NX files from our clients. Does Onshape support import from latest and greatest NX version? All forum entries about this topic seemed pretty old already. Thanks for your help and stay safe!

@S1mon There are in fact airfols that have an increase in curvature towards the trailing edge, mostly due to the camber. Not as much as at the L.E., but definitely stronger than in the center section. A "consistent" spacing might be appealing, but it may have it's limitations, if the overall number of coordinates is to be limited for reasons of computing performance and continuity. A reproducible dynamic spacing, based on some formula that takes shape and curvature into account, might be possible, but then, different airfoils might blend awkwardly, if not otherwise constrained. Also, upper and lower profile are usually very different, each requiring their own spacing. Maybe some kind of landmark points, which are not nessecarily a member of the coordinate points, but mathematically identified on the surface, could help to identify corresponding locations on different airfoils and could later be used as connection points later. It is difficult.

Not having ITAR compliance is definitely a deal breaker for our company. If Onshape had it, I could make the case for transitioning at least 5 cad users to onshape.

Just checking in on this topic - I'm at a new company and we're tentatively shopping around for CAD software for some upcoming projects for 3 or 4 seats currently. Would likely be willing to pay in the $2500-$3000 range for these seats.
Any chance there's been movement on this?

I believe it is a chicken-and-egg problem. Becoming officially ITAR certified takes $$ investment from OnShape. However, they don't know if they will have sufficient customers to justify the investment. I'm pretty sure they will.
This would also then compete more directly with PTC's other product, Creo, so that may be another factor.

It's now 2024. onshape being ITAR compliant would result in my employer purchasing licenses. If onshape does not receive ITAR compliance, then I will need to use Inventor and SolidWorks for my work.

All I'd say is that when I created the first Sketch I snapped the path onto the origin and all the lines were black.(Although I guess I didn't explicitly make the path Coincident with the origin - in fact I'm note so sure how I'd do so, unless I deliberately started drawing it NOT on the origin and then put it there using the Coincident constraint??)
