Trouble Filleting surface

I am going through the exercise "Introduction to surfacing." Currently on step 13. Everything was designed according to the exercise steps. Why is this doing this?

Seems the exercises don't match the current version.
Side note:
I have felt that I need to go back and get more experience before continuing.

Haven't gone through the lesson for some time but it seems like this is what is wanted for end result.
Using mutual trim is less steps instead of split and delete.
Also, your original fillet did not operate the way you expected due to an untrimmed face.

Everything?
Also you've chosen delete face, when the tutorial specificed delete part. Can get there with delete face too but you gotta pick an extra face to get to the same end point. You also have to factor in that when these tutorials were made… the tools may have had slightly different behaviors. So there will be some descrepancies. For example the split tool now allows you delete those faces/surfaces within the split feature.
Thank you Glen for showing an alternative. That worked.
——————————————————————————————-I went back and noticed this:I did not finish the exercise yet though so I am unsure of future errors, but it looks like smooth sailing.
use delete part per the exercise and it will select whole surfaces vs the delete face that is causing you to select 3 faces.
