Re: Texture (New Custom Feature!)
It's not the smoothest workflow because nothing sheet metal ever is but I think some basic extrusions like this Instructables link would cover a lot of bases for me. https://www.instructables.com/Curved-laser-bent-wood/
One of the photos in that link looked like the Onshape logo so I tried it since it's a default in the texture tool. No island bodies left behind either, it just worked.
Re: AI which know Feature Script (or can learn)
I find that the state of programming LLMs right now basically requires you to know how to program in the language already to get good results out of them, and that's not really an accident because their best training data samples are going to be the ones which include the language used by experts in any particular field. This means that the people least in need of the help from an LLM are the most effective at getting what they're looking for, while the people most in need of the help don't even know what to ask.
Re: Improvements to Onshape - January 31st, 2025
Brilliant so much to get excited about in one update. Nice work team.
Re: Improvements to Onshape - January 31st, 2025
Are there plans to make CAM available to Education/Classroom users? At least in a stripped down form that could do 2/2.5d operations.

Very happy about sketching on drawings!
Re: New Video Tutorial: Power User Selection Skills for Onshape
In FeatureScript they are called that. it's qConvexConnectedFaces() and qConcaveConnectedFaces(). I'm sure it's a balance between being unambiguous about what it does, and it being too much of a mouthful, so I don't feel strongly either way personally. Once you know, you know.

Wow!
Pretty sure I'll be using all the drawing improvements. Seems a bit trivial compared to some of the other stuff but cropping the detail view outline might be my favourite.
Also sheet metal forms, we've had a functional workflow for these but this looks way nicer!
EDIT: had sort of skipped over the obsoletion as I read it to mean it only applied to the "virtual part" kind of items but that will also be really nice!
Re: Improvements to Onshape - January 31st, 2025
A lot of long standing requests here, keep them coming! Drawing sketching, detail view boarder clipping, and remove permanently delete global permission for workspace deletion (change log). Building an obsoletion change is also going to save some time on occasion. Nice work!!
Re: Laser Joint Updated to V3.0: Pin Face Offset and Pin Chamfer!
I did some of these for fuel tanks a couple tears ago. Has the advantage of no bracing to assemble ready for welding and a straight tight edge for welding light weight aluminum for fuel tanks. Takes more work in the cad model but much improvement in fabrication. Adjust number of clamp holes to suit your project. Never got around to automating. Too many stiles, then the company was sold off. Held together with holes clamps. To finish, remove hole clamps and weld over holes.
Re: How do I cut out the shape?
Rather than a projected curve, try to extrude a surface and then split the original surface.
