Re: Update: Super Derive with mate connectors
It's hard to understand why 2 years later Onshape still doesn't allow a derived part to keep the parent's mate connectors natively.

Re: How do you design a car in onshape
Usually, you'd start out by taking car design classes at some universitiy during daytime, and you'd probably work through the Onshape leanring center at nights, and after that, you practise a little, take an internship at one or two well established design bureaus, where they make you work with old school stuff like Catia and SolidWorks, and after that you get back to using Onshape and woosh! - you should be just fine and hit the ground running in no time.
Dou you have any more specific questions?
Re: Improvements to Onshape - September 19th, 2025
:sigh: this is how rumors get started. We have no plans to get rid of planes in Part Studios.
Re: Improvements to Onshape - September 19th, 2025
@eric_pesty It's easy for you or I to add/create the mate connectors, but much like manually resizing datum planes, it seems like something that we shouldn't need to do. Also having been around a number of very smart engineers at a couple companies who are relatively new to Onshape, I would say that the lack of an obvious way to pick a default plane/axis is really a stumbling block. For certain types of parts in an assembly, it makes creating cross sections impossible without adding MCs or other extra references.

Does OnShape CAM support part holding tabs?
Hello, I'm working on a CAM setup to perform a simple profile cut of a part on a CNC Router and would like to add part holding tabs to the outside cut profile. Is there a setting to enable these in OnShape easily or would some form of workaround be needed?
Thank you in advance for any pointers!
Re: Improvements to Onshape - September 19th, 2025
Yep. I cringed each time @mlaflecheCAD created an implicit mate connector in the demo video on an edge which is likely to change or disappear as the design evolves.

Re: Improvements to Onshape - September 19th, 2025
Originally, Mate connectors were only used for mates, hence the name, but they've come so far since (and more to come). We can't think of a better name so all suggestions are welcome!
