Re: The one thing I HATE about OnShape.
You're using the wrong ISP, then.
I have been using a node locked locally installed CAD for years, if not decades. Guess what happened, when the network failed one day!
"Cannot refresh the license lease. Contact your system administrator! Launch in read only mode?"
Seems I wasn't much better off , then … ;0)
Re: How to Reference Individual Sketch Entities
sketchEntityQuery(id + "sketch1", EntityType.BODY, sketchEntityId)
To the Onshape dev who made this one: why doesnt this one start with q? qSketchEntityQuery follows naming conventions…or better yet, qSketchEntity?
Re: Optics: Custom Feature
special thanks to @jnewth and @Alex_Kempen for code review and wisdom and to @maximilian_schommer for creating and sharing the original Ray Tracer feature way back when which was an inspiration.
Optics: Custom Feature
It's been a while since I released any in-depth custom features, but I'm excited to finally make this one public! Optics is a tool for real-time feedback of optical designs in Onshape. I won't go into great detail on the ins and outs here since I have a very thorough demo video, but here are some teaser images. Enjoy!
Re: Improvements to Onshape - November 22nd, 2024
I just recently learned that we are able to "convert" an imported sheet metal part into an Onshape SM part. You just have to use the Sheet Metal tool > Thicken > select the main face > make sure thickness and direction are correct > Tangent propagation checkbox. This creates a new part but then you have the ability to add flanges, tabs, etc.
Export from iOS?
I’m trying to workout how to export a thing Iv designed. I want to upload it to shapeways to be 3D printed but can not workout how to export it.
Ps, I do not have access to a real computer, only have my iPad.
Hope someone can help me sort this..
kind regards

Re: polygon line
Holy crap, I'm blown away by how well this works! Thank you so much! This saves so much work! THANK YOU!
Re: polygon line
You can leave everything in the sketch. No need to do multiple sketches. Just do multiple thin extrudes referencing different parts of the sketch until you have done them all.

Re: Cutting dimensions for tubes, parallel to the tube.
Here is one way to accomplish this. A separate sketch in the part studio can give some lines for dimensioning. When you get to the drawing show/hide sketches.
