Slider Mate limit with surface or solid

I would like for a rod to slide through a hole until the end of the rod (which has an expanded flange) comes into contact with the surface or solid it is sliding through. So instead of setting a numerical limit, you set it so that the physical limitations of the system are the limits.
So, in the image below, the expanded parts of the circular rod will limit the movements of the three shells and the rod.
