Trying To Replicate A Catia Shape

If you watch the video and follow the same steps in Onshape this is rather straightforward. The curve you will use when the splines are set will be '3D Fit Splines' in Onshape (I ended up doing it for all 4 points because hitting SHIFT + Enter is easy to complete and open the same feature) and then lofting.

Another quick tip in the beginning is to copy and paste the sketch to not waste time recreating it like seen in the Catia video.

Wow, Thank you but me thinks no where near the same approach. I used a bridging curve with no real success and the model above is not quite right and the transitions are not as smooth but great to see another approach.

You made that look easy. I'll set aside some time to study the steps. Don't think I know what 3D fit splines even is...

VERY nice. I tried a bridging curve with surfaces - not so good. Thanks so much for taking the time, I learned 2 new techniques!!

@larry_hawes Note on the bridging curve you can also choose to use "match curvature" instead of "match tangent" to make the transition smoother and you can change the magnitude to change how quickly it begins to twist.  Not saying it is better or worse - just that you have a lot of control of the final shape.

Nice Lana, Thanks, my initial attempt was SO close to matching that behavior but missed a simple setting in the loft settings. Had the default 'solid' selected instead of 'surface' otherwise could have been a star...

@adrian_vlzkz you no longer need to add mate connectors like that for the transform options. They're built-in now!

Match vertices.... that is the option I couldn't figure out, that's why I used the Bridge Curve. awesome!

Hi Mike, Curious, is that doc public? I couldn't seem to open it and check your process. I don't understand the 'Layout' feature in the feature tree. Thanks for any help...

@larry_hawes yes it is public.  the layout is just the definition of the shape.

Thanks Mike, got it. Really learned a lot from that example. The sketch (simply named 'layout' doh) was much simpler than I usually draw and extruded specific surfaces to create the final shape. Simple and maybe obvious to most but always either put too much or too little in to a sketch.
