Trim function doesn't seem to work.

I have drawn a square and a circle with the circle centered at the midpoint of one side of the square. I would like to trim away the parts of the circle overlapping with the square, but nothing happens when I choose the trim function and click on the parts of the circle. To see the trim function appear in the ribbon at the top, I click on "Sketch" and then click on the trim scissor icon.

clicking sketch on the top creates a new sketch.
Also, trim will only trim entities that are intersected by other entity's in the Same sketch.
