Enrolling Students

I am in a school and would like all of my students to open an account - Is there a way to enrol students in bulk? Can students under the age 12 have school account?

    Hi @dan_pallett

There are currently two Education plans! Education Standard and Education Enterprise.

Education standard is a free plan that each student would have to sign up for individually. They would need to fill out the education standard form, get an email with the activation link, and then setup their account. There is no bulk way to do this.

The Education Enterprise is designed for whole schools to use. Students can be invited in bulk, and you can setup single sign-on (SSO) so students could sign in with the same school accounts they already use for their email/other programs. With SSO they wouldn't even need to get an email to setup their accounts. Just add them to the enterprise and tell them to sign in. Enterprise also has other benefits like analytics into student usage, administrative control, and a private domain. You can learn more about enterprise here. Enterprise is a paid plan but if you sign up soon you will get access free until the end of August 2021. If you are interested you can fill out this form to be contact by the Onshape Academic team and find out if the Education Enterprise is right for you.

To answer your last question, students under 13 are able to have an account, but they need to have the permission/oversight of a parent, teacher, or other guardian when creating the account. This could mean that the parent/teacher signs up for the student with the student's name and information, then the student uses the account. Alternatively the student can fill out the information on their own with a parent/teacher watching and providing consent. In either case, the student is able to use Onshape, they just need that initial consent on creating the account.

I am teaching with on shape. Just got started.  some students claim that they never receive an email back from on shape to create an account. We know about the filters so they use a personal email. still claim that when they use a personal email not receiving an email back.
how can we get these students registered and using On shape??

    Hi @jeffrey_mackniak

Sometimes school email services can block emails. If they used their personal email, maybe it is in their spam/junk folder.

The best way would be for you or your students to contact Onshape Support so they can see if the students filled out the form or resend the activation email. If you or your students aren't signed into Onshape, you can fill out this form to contact Onshape: https://www.onshape.com/en/contact
